Information Regarding Campus Licenses

Medical Information Technology (MedIT) is the accredited department with the right to perform installations of Microsoft Campus Agreement (On-campus program) software within the Faculty of Medicine.

Additional information regarding the Microsoft Campus Agreement (On-campus program):

McGill is covered by a campus-wide licensing agreement that allows the installation and use of the Microsoft Office Enterprise Suite (PC and Mac) and upgrades of the Windows Operating system on all McGill owned or leased computers. Having a campus-wide agreement allows the university to move towards standardizing the version of Microsoft Office used across campus. This, in turn, simplifies the exchange of documents, training and support provided, and increases application security.

The program specifies that eligible computers must be McGill owned by an official McGill Unit, which means that at least one of the following four conditions must be met:

1.       A FOAPAL was used to purchase it.

2.       It was partially funded or bought through either the Academic Laptop/Tablet Program or the Administrative Computer Renewal Program.

3.       A research grant paid on a McGill FOAPAL was used to purchase it.

4.       Departmental/unit funds were used.*

* The department/unit in question must be an official McGill unit to qualify for the program.

For eligible computers the following software is currently available under the Campus Agreement:

• MS Office Enterprise 2007

• MS Office Mac 2008

• MS Windows XP Professional*

• MS Windows Vista Enterprise*

• MS Windows Vista Ultimate*

• MS Windows 7 Enterprise *

*Notes:

• You must have an existing Windows Operating system or be running a dual boot Mac OS / Windows system to qualify.

• 32-Bit operating systems are available by default. 64-bit systems are available by request.

Eligible computers must have their status verified by MedIT. An email must be sent to help.medit@mcgill.ca with an attachment containing a copy of the computer’s invoice. If the FOAPAL is not evident on the invoice (McGill Computer Store), please send also the “Banner Document Number” (i.e. transaction # in Banner).

Upon verification, the computers will have to be brought or shipped to MedIT for the installation. There is a small fee for our services (usually $20 per product, payable by FOAPAL only). Details are available here:

http://www.medit.mcgill.ca/Forms/Computer_Config.htm

Upon installation, the computers can be picked up at MedIT or they will be shipped back at our expense.

In the event that a computer is not eligible for the On-campus program, it may be eligible Work at Home program (see references below for additional information).
